Corey Clark Must Stop Being an Attention Hog

"American Idol" became a craze from the get-go. Viewers
watched avidly while Kelly, Rueben and Fantasia sang their way to
the top. Now in its fourth season, it's bigger than ever. Each week,
record-breaking numbers of fans tune in to watch contestants sing
their hearts out. But lately the news waves have been abuzz with
cries of scandal. Are these whispers about Paula Abdul fact or fiction?
You be the judge.
Weeks before ABC aired "Fallen Idol," the rumors of an
affair between Abdul and third-season contestant Corey Clark flew
from airwave to airwave. "Fallen Idol" exposed this "affair"
and Clark also accused Abdul of coaching him behind the scenes to
further him along on the show.
The next morning, while flipping from station to station, Clark's
face repeatedly
filled my TV screen. His cocky, sure-of-himself attitude really
made one ponder over his creditability. To makes the situation sound
even fishier, Clark just so happens to have a book and a self-titled
debut album coming out in stores soon. Coincidence? I think not.
He claims his accusations aren't some self-promoting stint, yet
his timing couldn't have been any better. If he weren't trying to
push his name, why would he come out with this now? Why didn't he
expose this dirty little secret right after its occurrence? His
actions are just too suspicious.
Abdul is hanging on as best as can be expected. Thus far, she isn't
in any trouble and still has support from fans and her fellow judges.
Abdul did the best thing she could have done for herself: she made
a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live. As they saying goes,
"If you can't beat them, you might as well join them."
And that's exactly what Abdul did. She joined right in and made
fun of herself.
You may have heard that there's no such thing as bad publicity.
This couldn't be any truer for "American Idol." Rather
than lose viewers, the show gained more notoriety and reached an
all-time high number of viewers after this "scandal" broke.
Is this possible scheme backfiring on Clark? I don't believe he
expected "American Idol" to become hotter than ever.
And where is Clark now? He seems to have disappeared from the limelight
and
not much attention is being paid to him at this moment. At this
point it's not evident if his breakout has done him any good. Time
will tell with the sales of his book and CD.
As for Abdul, "American Idol" plans on investigating,
but who knows what t hey will actually find?
"American Idol" seems to have a bright future ahead of
it. It appears that fans have no doubts about their show and at
this point aren't questioning the line between reality and fiction.
