Catch A Few "Behind The Scenes" Moments On "American
Idol"

Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Ever wonder what you can't see on
shows such as "American Idol" when you are sitting
at home in your living room? Because the shows are shot live
the cameras don't catch everything, plus things are of course
happening during commercial breaks. Wednesday night's "American
Idol" was packed with behind and between the scenes
action. Here are a few things you might have missed:
Season five favorite Kelly Pickler waved to someone in the
audience while she was singing her song "Red High Heels." She
gave a nod to none other than Chicken Little, also known
as Pickler's season five fellow singer Kevin Covais.
After her performance, Pickler hung out off to the side
of the stage with producer Nigel Lythgoe and the two watched
the show on the monitor and discussed the previous night's
performances.
It was obvious that judge Simon Cowell was happy last night,
because when a caller asked if he would re-create his kiss
with Paula Abdul from a previous season, he said of course
because she was a "good kisser." What was in Simon's
Coca Cola cup that made him happy is yet to be determined.
What viewers didn't see was Cowell heading to his judge's
seat. The grumpy judge usually goes around the pit to avoid
the fans, but Thursday night he went through the fans, shaking
hands and throwing high fives.
When host Ryan Seacrest announced that Carly Smithson was
in the bottom three, the contestant looked upset before the
commercial break. During the commercial she let tears stream
down her face and Seacrest and Idol stage manager Debbie
went over and gave her a hug. David Archuleta, Brooke White
and Nigel Lythgoe also went over to see if they could cheer
her up.
The audience got into the act also, and before the show
went back on the air the audience started calling out encouraging
words to the Idol which worked and the singer had a smile
back on her face by the time the show returned to living
rooms around the country.
Also during the commercial breaks, contestant Michael Johns
just couldn't stop waving at his mom, dad and sister who
were in the audience. Seems the family had flown in from
Australia and Johns was thrilled he had made it into the
top 10 in their presence.
