RTV Predicts…What We Think Will Happen This Week!
Writing by Jennifer_Brown on Monday, 24 March, 2008 at 8:47 am
You know the drill by now: You watch the shows, you pick your favorites, you talk about them, and you make your predictions about what will happen next.

At Reality TV Magazine we’re doing the same thing — watching the shows, chatting about our faves (and our least-faves), and guessing about what’s next. With American Idol whittling down this season’s cream of the crop and Celebrity Apprentice at finale point this week, we’ve got plenty to talk about. And plenty of predictions to make. Here’s what we think might happen on reality TV this week:

Joe, on American Idol:

1. Kristy Lee Cook will have a much better performance this week, but she will still be the next finalist to go home. The finalist who people have been expecting to go home every week, always only gets eliminated after they improve.

2. Ryan Seacrest will officially announce a wildcard competition as part of Idol Gives Back.

3. There will be controversy over if some of the songs that the finalists pick for the “Songs From The Year They Were Born” theme were actually released in the year that the finalists were born.

4. Someone named David will have the best performance of the top ten performance show.

Jen, on The Biggest Loser:

One of the women makes a Biggest Loser record this week. Given that the choices are only Ali and Kelly, I’ve gotta go with Ali on this one. Despite the fact that the boys own the majority of the show, I think Mark or Jay will go home this week. Dan will do that smug smirk thing and comment on how superior he is. One of the guys will bawl like a baby at least once this episode.

Jen, on Dancing with the Stars:

Has Penn Jillette made himself disappear with his clumsy dance moves? Probably not. This week the women will totally outshine the men, but Monica Seles and Adam Carolla will go home.

Jen, on The Bachelor:

Shayne will mention the fact that she’s an actress and her father is Lorenzo Lamas at least once. Someone will get tipsy and cuss someone else out. We’ll get our first glance of Matt Grant with no shirt on (purrr…). Someone will cry when voted off, claiming they’re already in love.

Jen, on Celebrity Apprentice:

While I LOVE Piers and would so enjoy seeing him win, I LOVE Trace even more and would love to see him hear, “You’re hired.” He’s played a clean, smart game and he’s just so dad-gum loveable…

American Idol Contestant Josiah Leming Reportedly Gets A Record Deal
Writing by Joe Reality on Sunday, 23 March, 2008 at 5:43 pm

On Tuesday night, American Idol 7 finalists Brooke White, Carly Smithson, Chikezie, David Archuleta, David Cook, Jason Castro, Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns, Ramiele Malubay and Syesha Mercado will battle it out in hopes of eventually securing something that one American Idol 7 contestant apparently already has. According to Knoxnews.com, former American Idol 7 contestant Josiah Leming has signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records.

As Reality TV Magazine readers might remember, when Josiah Leming didn’t make the top twenty-four semifinalists on American Idol 7, we reported on the massive outcry on the American Idol message boards. We also called it, “perhaps the most controversial top 24 cut in the history of American Idol.”

Even though Josiah Leming’s American Idol journey came to an end that night, his career started to take off. The Ellen DeGeneres Show invited Josiah to be a guest, MTV News did a profile article on him, and over 38,000 people became his friend on MySpace.

It should be noted that Josiah Leming’s official MySpace page still lists his record label as “up for negotiation.” However, back in February, Josiah posted to his MySpace that he would be meeting with many major record labels in March. Recent online rumors had suggested that Josiah was close to a deal with Warner Brothers, but Knoxnews.com appears to be the first official report of a deal. Knoxnews.com is the official website of the Knoxville News Sentinel. Knoxville, Tennessee is the closest major city to Josiah’s hometown of Morristown, Tennessee.

After the outcry over Josiah Leming not making the American Idol 7 top twenty-four, American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe was asked about Josiah’s future plans. Lythgoe responded, “I honestly don’t know. I’m afraid when they leave us, contestants leave us. Otherwise, I’d be worrying about 100,000 contestants every year. So it is a question of good luck with your career, and we’ll see you again.”

Exclusive Interview: American Idol’s Jon Peter Lewis Goes Campy!
Writing by Jennifer_Brown on Friday, 21 March, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Kids who want to compete in a future season of American Idol but wish there were a way to get a competitive edge can breathe easy this summer. For the second year in a row, Pali Mountain Retreat and Conference Center will be hosting American Idol camps, a place where superstars-to-be can get the 4-1-1 on what it takes to make it in the biz.

And who better to take the starring role as camp counselor than past American Idol contenders themselves?

Recently, Reality TV Magazine chatted with season 3’s Jon Peter Lewis, who is gearing up for his second stint as Idol camp counselor.

“I love kids,” says Lewis. “I love being involved. I remember all of my camp experiences and I remember a lot of my camp counselors from when I was a kid and the impact that they had on me. I like seeing the light turn on in the eyes of some of these young people.”

According to Lewis, a typical camp day includes plenty of singing instruction, as well as special guest speakers regarding hair, makeup, fashion, and performance. Every morning begins with a group sing and every night ends with a special concert. In between, campers have plenty of time for swimming, hiking, roasting marshmallows, and other “camp stuff.”

Although the 2008 official lineup of former Idols has not yet been announced, last year, the camp boasted past contestants Ace Young, Kimberly Locke, Bucky Covington, Carmen Rasmusen, Vonzell Solomon, and, of course, Jon Peter Lewis as camp counselors.

“I’d say probably the very best thing that someone learns and takes from Idol camp would be that it’s possible,” Lewis says. “That kind of feeling of empowerment is important for a young artist. I think that feeling of ‘I can do it and I’d love to try’ is really important.”

But also, Lewis explains, campers can gain a lot from learning that their “Idols” are just people, too. “When they meet some of these people that they see on TV…and then when they see you in the cafeteria eating the bad mac and cheese, it becomes ‘This is a friend of mine.’ It’s nice to have your idols; it’s nice to have someone to look up to. [But it] can be dangerous.”

Aside from that, Lewis’ only advice to would-be campers is simple: “Come with a good attitude and don’t be a jerk.”

American Idol camp will be held at the Pali Mountain Retreat and Conference Center beginning June 15, 2008. $2,995 will get campers ages 10-15 a two-week crash course in American Idol. Readers can use the promo code idolfan1 to waive the $35 registration fee.

Is American Idol Wildcard Show In The Works?
Writing by Joe Reality on Friday, 21 March, 2008 at 12:28 pm

There has been some buzz on various American Idol message boards and blogs about the possibility of an American Idol 7 wildcard show. However, that same buzz has surfaced every year since American Idol eliminated the wildcard show. This year the buzz might be a little stronger, because the official American Idol website recently had a poll question asking visitors to vote on who should be brought back as a wildcard.

Also, in a recent press call, David Hernandez, who was the first of the American Idol 7 top twelve finalists eliminated, made an interesting comment. Hernandez said, “I’m off the show, and I’m not going back on obviously, unless they were to pull me as a wildcard, which would be amazing.” So was David Hernandez’s comment a subtle hint that a wildcard show is in the works or just wishful thinking?

Given that the American Idol 7 finale has been announced for Tuesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 21, then it would seem like there wouldn’t be time to do a wildcard show if one finalist is going to be eliminated every week. However, American Idol could always do a surprise double elimination week, which would allow them to throw in a wildcard to really shake things up.

However, another more likely possibility is a special wildcard competition for a spot on the American Idol tour. There has been some Internet speculation about this possibility. Given the poll on the American Idol website and David Hernandez’s comment, it does seem like American Idol producers might have something up their sleeves in regards to a wildcard competition.

Normally, the top ten finalists on American Idol go on tour, but a wildcard show could be used to allow previously eliminated contestants to compete for an additional spot on the tour. Some speculation centers around this wildcard show occurring as part of the Idol Gives Back special. This rumor would make sense considering that FOX has announced a special 7:30 PM start time for Idol Gives Back. The extra thirty minutes could be to hold some type of American Idol wildcard tour competition.

American Idol Nurse Not Going To Chase Unicorns
Writing by Joe Reality on Friday, 21 March, 2008 at 9:39 am
When Ryan Seacrest revealed that Amanda Overmyer was going home, Amanda handled the news with calmness and gracefulness. When asked about her good natured way of handling elimination, Amanda said, “Yesterday wasn’t the most dramatic thing that’s happened in my life. You know, I just got voted off of a TV show, and I was thankful to be there and privileged to have that many millions of Americans vote for me just to keep me on until eleven, and for someone like me who’s completely different. You know, I’m kind of out of a different mold than everyone else in the competition. I found that very warming that I had that much support.”

Even though Amanda Overmyer gained the label of being the rocker chick, she didn’t feel that helped her in the competition. Amanda explained, “Being my own personal style helped me as far as being the quintessential rocker chick I guess, but as far as the competition itself, I wouldn’t say that it necessarily helped me, because young kids are not going to relate to me as easily as they do the other ones.”

While contestants often blame their elimination on song choice or on going first, Amanda Overmyer didn’t take that road. Amanda said, “I don’t think that the song choice had anything to do with it, because if it wasn’t that song it was going to be another song that sounded like me singing it. I don’t necessarily think it was the song choice, and you’ll never hear me pissing and whining that I was first or anything like that. I definitely had hoped for maybe like position six or seven, but it’s not how it worked out, so it is what it is. You know, I’m not going to cry over spilt milk.”

American Idol: Amanda Overmyer Had A Different Agenda
Writing by Joe Reality on Friday, 21 March, 2008 at 6:38 am

While most contestants who try out for American Idol likely have the primary goal of winning the competition, recently eliminated American Idol finalist Amanda Overmyer had a different agenda.

When Amanda Overmyer was recently asked what she thought of the American Idol judges’ comments to her, Amanda replied, “When I was done singing, I was done singing. It’s just kind of like when those judges would give their comments I just wanted to be respectful and listen, but the comments weren’t going to sway me one way or the other as far as what I was going to do. The objective of being on this show was to go up there and show America me, perform like me, and look like me, and see how well it would take. The comments from the judges are based more on the idea of trying to win, and I just had a different agenda.”

When asked about the judges’ constant bickering, Amanda Overmyer reiterated her earlier statement. Amanda said, “As far as the judges bickering and all that, like I said before, their comments are based on excelling within the competition, and that wasn’t really my objective.” Amanda went on to express that she wasn’t affected by the bickering. Amanda explained, “I mean that doesn’t bother me, that’s just part of good TV. If they didn’t do that no one would want to watch it.”

When asked to explain her agenda, Amanda said, “Well, up until this point, it was just to get my sound out there and my performances out there, you know, see if I get any bites.”

American Idol Mentors Will Be Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton, Neil Diamond, and Andrew Lloyd Webber
Writing by Joe Reality on Friday, 21 March, 2008 at 1:01 am

Before American Idol 7 began, American Idol producers revealed that they were going to focus more on the contestants this year, and they have lived up to that promise. Only four mentors have been announced for American Idol this year. During the most recent American Idol results show, Ryan Seacrest revealed that Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton, Neil Diamond and Andrew Lloyd Webber would serve as mentors during American Idol 7.

These four mentors will aid the finalists in preparing for their Tuesday night performances. On the Wednesday night results show, these mentors will take the stage to perform live. FOX has not yet announced which mentors will appear on which specific dates.

One thing that at least three of the mentors share in common is that they have new albums that either have recently been released or will be released soon. Mariah Carey has a new album called “E=MC²” that is scheduled for an April 15, 2008 release. “E=MC²” will be the eleventh album of Mariah Carey’s career. The first single from the album called “Touch My Body” is already a Top 10 radio hit.

Dolly Parton recently released a new album called “Backwoods Barbie.” The album entered the Billboard pop albums chart at number seventeen and entered both the country and indie album charts at number two. Dolly Parton is going on a world tour in support of “Backwoods Barbie.”

Neil Diamond has a new album called “Home Before Dark,” which is scheduled for a May 6, 2008 release date. Neil Diamond is teaming with acclaimed producer Rick Rubin on the album.

While Andrew Lloyd Webber might not have an album in the works, the world famous composer is producing a sequel to the film version of “The Phantom of the Opera.” The sequel will premiere in 2008 and is being directed by Jack O’Brien.

American Idol Finalist Amanda Overmeyer Not Hurt By Vote For The Worst
Writing by Joe Reality on Thursday, 20 March, 2008 at 4:13 pm

For the last several weeks, American Idol finalist Amanda Overmyer has been the contestant of choice for the Vote For The Worst website. While Vote For The Worst is often thought of as the website that encourages viewers to vote for the worst singer, that is not technically what they do. Vote For The Worst actually supports who they consider to be the most entertaining contestant who they feel American Idol producers would not want to see win.

In a media conference call, recently eliminated American Idol finalist Amanda Overmyer was asked if she was following Vote For The Worst. Amanda replied, “No, I had heard that I was their girl though.”

When Amanda Overmyer was asked if Vote For The Worst had hurt her chances on American Idol or hurt her personally, Amanda displayed the same good natured attitude that she displayed after being voted off Idol. Amanda said, “No, it didn’t personally hurt me at all. I mean, hell, votes are votes, and from what I hear they weren’t too harsh on me or anything. I think a chunk of them actually liked me for like real.”

American Idol Controversy Equals Elimination
Writing by Joe Reality on Wednesday, 19 March, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Have an arrest for DUI in your past? Once employed as a male stripper? Made fun of Christmas in a YouTube video? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, then chances are that you will not be the next American Idol.

For the third week in a row, a contestant with a controversial story about them circulating on the Internet has been eliminated from American Idol. On American Idol, it’s beginning to look a lot like controversy equals elimination.

First, Danny Noriega, who many thought was a shoe-in for the top twelve, was eliminated after a controversial Christmas greetings video of him surfaced on Youtube. Next, David Hernandez got the boot, not long after news broke that he was once employed as a male stripper.

Finally, this week, Amanda Overmyer, whose past DUI arrest also made headlines, was the somewhat shocking elimination choice. Granted that all three of these contestants left after performance shows where they had not given one of their better performances. However, many American Idol fans have expressed on message boards and blogs that there were other contestants more deserving of going home.

All three also had their moments in the competition, which is more than can be said for some other contestants. Amanda Overmyer excelled at “I Hate Myself For Loving You.” David Hernandez wowed the judges with “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” and “Papa Was A Rolling Stone.” Even though Danny Noriega got mixed reviews from the judges, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul liked his “Jailhouse Rock, while Simon Cowell liked his “Until You Come Back To Me.”

Were these contestants eliminated because of the controversial stories circulating about them? Or is it just a strange coincidence? Does controversy equal elimination on American Idol?

American Idol Results: Amanda Overmyer Voted Off
Writing by Joe Reality on Wednesday, 19 March, 2008 at 7:08 pm

At the beginning of the top eleven finalists American Idol results show, Ryan Seacrest revealed the mentors for this season would be Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Neil Diamond. Seacrest also announced the return of the American Idol songwriters competition, where the winning song will be performed by the final two on the American Idol 7 finale.

The American Idol top eleven finalists performed a group medley of Beatles songs. After a recap of the American Idol top eleven performance show, Ryan Seacrest called Brooke White to center stage and revealed that she was in the top ten. Next, Seacrest called Carly Smithson to center stage and told her that she was in the bottom three. Next, Seacrest called David Archuleta to center stage and announced that he was in the top ten. Finally, Seacrest called Michael Johns to center stage and revealed that he was also in the top ten.

For the Ford music video, the American Idol finalists performed “Should I Stay Or Should I Go” while having a close encounter with some UFO’s. First, Ryan Seacrest called David Cook to center stage and revealed that he was in the top ten. Next, Seacrest called Kristy Lee Cook to center stage and told her that she was in the bottom three. Next, Seacrest called Jason Castro to center stage and announced that he was in the top ten. Finally, Seacrest called Ramiele Malubay to center stage and revealed that she was also in the top ten.

An American Idol call-in viewer asked Simon Cowell why he spent so much money on cars and nothing on clothes. After saying it was a very rude question, Cowell replied, “Because unlike some of the other people on this show, I actually don’t have an ego.” Another American Idol call-in viewer asked if Simon Cowell would consider filming a sequel to the kiss scene with Paula Abdul, and Cowell said yes, because Paula was actually a very good kisser.
