Simon Cowell pays off couple’s mortgage
Generous Simon Cowell has paid off the $162,000 mortgage
of a couple whose cancer-stricken three-year-old daughter
has melted his heart.
The TV Mr Nasty showed his caring side by vowing to be a “guardian
angel” for little Madelaine Stoen as she bravely battles
the disease. He told her tearful parents Amy and Randy he
will be there for them and their daughter whenever they need
him.
Generous Cowell stepped in to help the family after hearing
how they are struggling to pay the bills since Madelaine
was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer last
month.
The Stoens have to travel more than 100 miles from their
Minnesota home each day so she can receive vital treatments.
They can no longer both work as one of them always has to
be there for Madeline.
The courageous toddler, who is starting to lose her hair,
is about to begin radiation treatment and faces a year of
being in and out of hospitals.
But Cowell lightened the burden by leaving the doting parents
overwhelmed on Oprah Winfrey’s chatshow. And he was
rewarded with a hug from Amy and a high-five from host Oprah,
who recently featured the family on her ‘Big Give’ show.
Cowell told the couple: “I didn’t know what
to do in this situation other than to do something which
I hope will help your situation.
“I know you are having problems with your mortgage.
As of this afternoon, your mortgage has been paid off.”
Later he told Oprah he had only just realised how good it
is to give. He said: “I didn’t realise that.
It’s taken me 48 years. I credit you with this.”
Cowell added: “The money for me is not the important
part.
“It’s when you see that film and that little
girl.
“I said to the parents, ‘It doesn’t stop
there’.
“If there are any problems, I’m her guardian
angel now.
“It’s a very good feeling.”
